Building LEGO into Our Workplace

Once again, 130,000 industry professionals will descend on Las Vegas to visit CONEXPO from March 14-18. With 2.7 million square feet of exhibit space, CONEXPO is an excellent way to keep up with the latest equipment advances, technology applications, and tools for civil construction and big machinery.

Most of us remember the joy of creating big machines, cars, and spaceships using LEGO building sets as kids, and those bricks continue to fascinate both children and adults today. LEGO sets engage students in hands-on investigation of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concepts while contributing to literacy, communication, and social-emotional development skills in schools. At Mission Critical, we are equally LEGO fanatics, but none more so than Owner and Managing Partner RoAnn Thorne.

“As Pursuit Managers, we spend hours on each project developing approaches to project work with our clients, so we are big fans of machinery and technology,” says RoAnn. “Getting a chance to build some of the big machinery we see at CONEXPO is a great way to recenter and an important part of the work environment here at Mission Critical.”

RoAnn’s more significant LEGO construction builds include:

  • LEGO Liebherr R 9800 Mining Excavator – 4,108 Pieces

  • LEGO Technic Rough Terrain Crane – 4,057 Pieces

  • LEGO Volvo L350F Wheel Loader – 1,636 Pieces

  • LEGO Technic Mobile Telescopic Crane – 1,292 Pieces

RoAnn also builds MOC (“My Own Creation”) sets, including:

  • Koenigsegg Agera Hypercar Model – 3,122 Pieces

  • Historic Iron Truss Railway Bridge – 1,233 Pieces

February 2023 – A huge thank you to our friends at Liebherr-Mining Equipment Colmar SAS (France) for an awesome photo of the Lego Technic 9800 BH mining excavator with its big brother. Not sure big brother would fit on our conference room table!
